Emma's Pizza in Cambridge's Kendall Square Is Opening a New Spot in Boston's South End

A neighborhood pizzeria that has been in Cambridge for a half century is expanding across the river.

According to a source, Emma's Pizza on Hampshire Street is planning to open a new spot--which does not yet have a name--on Columbus Avenue in the space where Mangia Neapolitan Pizza had been until closing in January, (It appeared that Mangia was only closed for renovations at that time.) Based on early information, the new place will be a satellite location focusing mainly on takeout and delivery (slices will be offered as well as whole pies), with counter seating inside and some additional patio seating outdoors during the warmer months.

Emma's Pizza first opened in the 1960s in the Huron Village section of the city, eventually moving to its present home on the edge of Kendall Square around 2000. The place is known in part for its array of toppings, sauces, and cheeses, with 25 specific pizza options available along with make-your-own customized pies.

The address for the new eatery from Emma's will be 537 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118. The website for the Cambridge location of Emma's can be found at http://www.emmaspizza.com/

[June 21 update: Eater Boston mentions that Emma's will be opening its new location in the South End later this month or in early July.]

[August 2 update: According to a message from the place, Emma's opens today in the South End.]
