Waypoint Is Opening in Cambridge

It looks like one of the best-known chefs and restaurateurs in the Boston area is opening yet another dining spot in Cambridge.

According to a License Commission General Hearing page within the City of Cambridge website, Michael Scelfo is planning to open a restaurant tentatively called Waypoint on Mass. Ave between Harvard Square and Central Square. This confirms what an earlier article from Eater Boston said last month, that Scelfo would be involved in a project that would be his third restaurant, following Alden & Harlow in Harvard Square and Naco Taco [ed note--Scelfo is no longer involved with Naco Taco], which just opened by the MIT campus. It appears that the plans are for Waypoint to be open for dinner Monday through Friday, with brunch/lunch and dinner on weekends, and that the place would have seating for approximately 145. Little other information is given on the proposed spot, other than the fact that Scelfo is seeking an All Alcoholic Beverages as a Restaurant license.

The address for this new restaurant in Cambridge is 1030 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02138.

[May 20 update: Cambridge Day is reporting that plans for Michael Scelfo's Waypoint restaurant are now on hold after it was met with resistance by residents at yesterday's hearing. The article says that the License Commission will put off plans to talk about Waypoint any further until Scelfo and his attorney can meet with residents and show them the specific plans for the space.]

[August 5 update: A new License Commission General Hearing page from the city indicates that talks on Waypoint will continue on August 11, with Michael Scelfo still listed as the manager and the proposed seating capacity remaining at 145.]

[August 25, 2016 update: Eater Boston mentions that Waypoint opens tomorrow, and that it will be a "seafood-focused" spot that will also have a wide variety of absinthe options.]
