Bertucci's in Cambridge's Harvard Square Is Closing

A local chain of Italian dining spots is getting ready to close one of its original locations.

According to a poster on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page (and confirmed via a press release sent today), Bertucci's in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge will be closing at the end of business hours today after being in business since 1988, with the release saying that the landlord decided to go with another retailer for the Brattle Street space even though the chain was willing to renovate or make changes to the concept in order to keep the place open. The press release states that every staff member at the Harvard Square restaurant has been placed or offered positions with other locations of the chain, and that other shops will remain open, including two others in Cambridge (Kendall Square and Alewife).

Bertucci's first started out in 1981 and currently has more than 90 locations in 10 states as well as Washington, DC. The restaurants focus on brick-oven pizza and Italian dishes.

The address for the Bertucci's in Harvard Square is 21 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The website for the chain can be found at http://www.bertuccis.com/
