Cheba Hut May Be Coming to the Boston Area

An Arizona-based chain of sub shops may be coming to the Boston area, and the theme of the shops may raise a few eyebrows.

The Boston Herald is reporting that Cheba Hut is talking with a developer about bringing franchises to Massachusetts as well as New York, Pennsylvania, and perhaps Vermont. The article says that the restaurant chain's theme is "cannabis-driven" and "counterculture-driven," with "toasted" subs such as "AZ Homegrown," "Chronic," and "Thai Stick" included on the menu. (The menu also features hemp brownies.)

Cheba Hut, whose name comes from a slang term for cannabis, is found mostly in the Southwest and the West Coast, though one is also located in Iowa. (There are currently none on the East Coast.) The website for the chain can be found at http://chebahut.com/

Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this to our attention.
