Olive Tree Cafe in Cambridge to Become Beantown Taqueria

A Middle Eastern cafe by the MIT campus in Cambridge has closed, and it looks like it will be replaced by a Mexican eatery.

A License Commission General Hearing notice on the City of Cambridge website indicates that the Olive Tree Cafe on Mass. Ave. is planning to become a new spot called Beantown Taqueria. The meeting, which will be held this evening, will cover the name change itself rather than a transfer of license, though the person mentioned as the holder of the common victualer license for the Olive Tree Cafe and the manager of Beantown Taqueria are two different people, so there may indeed be a change of ownership from one restaurant to the other.

[April 13 update: A Chowhound poster states that Beantown Taqueria is now open.]

The Olive Tree cafe was dining spot that focused on classic American cafe food and Middle Eastern fare. A few of the items on the menu included pancakes, French toast, waffles, hummus, grape leaves, Greek salads, chicken shawarma, lamb kebabs, curried goat, burgers, and a BLT.

The address for the now-closed Olive Tree Cafe (and new Beantown Taqueria) is 245 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02139.  The website for Beantown Taqueria can be found at http://www.beantowntaqueria.com/
