Salem Steampunk Sweets and Savories to Open in Salem

It looks like Salem's first "steampunk" restaurant (and one of the only steampunk eateries in the entire Boston area) is going to be opening this spring.

According to their blog, Steampunk Sweets & Savories is planning to open on Derby Street (east of downtown Salem), with a possible opening date sometime in May. The atmosphere of the dining spot will be based on the sci-fi/fantasy subculture of steampunk, which centers mainly on the steam-based technology of Victorian-era England, so the space may feature much in the way of cast iron, gadgets, gears, brass, rivets, wood, and so on.

Steampunk Sweets & Savories will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring such items as soups, salads, tea breads, quiche, panini, chicken marsala, pad thai, coq au vin, and cupcakes. The menu will offer gluten-free, vegan, and lactose-free items as well.

One other restaurant with some steampunk influences can be found near Boston--the Deluxe Station Diner in Newton Centre. (Thanks to a couple of our followers on Twitter for letting us know about this.)

[April 17 update: Based on an earlier Facebook post from the restaurant, it appears that Steampunk Sweets & Savories may be opening on May 1. We will try to confirm this date over the coming days and post another update here.]

The address for this upcoming eatery in Salem will be: Steampunk Sweets & Savories, 84 Derby Street, Salem, MA, 01970. Their blog can be found at http://salemsteampunksands.blogspot.com/

Thanks to North Shore Dish for bringing this to our attention.
