Great Escape Opening in Historic Salem Jail

A new restaurant is coming to Salem this summer, and it will be located in an old jail that is in the process of being renovated.

According to the Salem News, the upcoming dining spot, which will be called Great Escape, will be located on the ground floor of the Salem Jail complex on St. Peter Street (a short distance southeast of where Route 107 and Washington Street intersect). The article states that the restaurant will have brick walls, granite floors, and high ceilings, and will be sectioned off using cell doors from the 200-year old jail. The interior of Great Escape will have a capacity of 70, while an outdoor patio will be able to seat another 50. The Salem News mentions that Great Escape will focus on both American and Italian fare.

An August opening is planned for Great Escape, which, according to the Historic Salem site, will share the restored complex with residential space.

[September 20 update: According to the North Shore Dish Twitter page, Great Escape opens today.]

The address for this new restaurant in Salem is: Great Escape, 50 St. Peter Street, Salem, MA, 01970.
